Where Beauty Hides {a poem}

beauty does not come
in lipstick tubes,
in concealer,
in eye shadow
and liquid eyeliner.

beauty isn’t
perfection,
beauty isn’t
fashion,
beauty isn’t
grabbing everyone’s attention.

beauty hides in
the soul of she who faced her fears
beauty hides in
the heart of he who is brave
beauty hides in
a joyful heart
beauty hides in
brokenness made new.

-Gaby Comprés

Society tells you that you need to look a certain way to be beautiful. It says that you need to keep up with the latest trends and that you need to be a certain height and weight and that you need to use make up to be beautiful. But that’s not beauty.

Real beauty isn’t external. Real beauty happens in your heart. You are beautiful when you are happy, when you are joyful– when you choose to be happy despite the rough patches you’re going through. You are beautiful when you are brave and fearless. Beauty happens when you rise from the ashes of your life, when you choose to keep living even though you’ve been hurt and your heart is broken. Your heart makes you beautiful.
